In 2009, Borrego Springs was certified as the world’s second International Dark Sky Community.
Rams Hill has adopted a Dark Sky Policy for the community. Per the RHCA Rules and Regulations, “All porch lights and other outside lights should be turned off by 10:00 PM whenever possible. No outside lights should be left on overnight."
A recent Abouttownmagazine.com article noted that “San Diego County now has the distinct honor of being the only county in all of California with three designated International Dark Sky areas: Julian, Borrego Springs, and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.”
